Movin' On
Once again, my great Tatooine adventure has reached another chapter. After arriving back home from a quick trip to the Jawa Den, It appears i'm moving from my moisture farm to downtown Mos Eisley, a wretched hive of scum and villiany, and am taking up new duties which i'm probably not allowed to talk about yet. Either way, i hate having to pack up and move everything i own YET AGAIN. One of these days it's going to stop, i swear it! If i can get it to upload on this crappy intarweb server here, i'll post another state of the monki address video. (26 Battles | Fight?) | | Saturday, December 1st, 2007 | | 4:46 pm |
Return to the Advent of Awesome
Yes, it's another year we celebrate AWESOME DAY. That is, the day a concentrated burst of AWESOME RADIATION was accidentally funnelled through the ozone layer and struck a hospital in California. It's been 31 years since the BIRTH OF AWESOME, though honestly it doesn't seem like that long ago... Anyway, training for my new job, which is kung fu-tastic. Wishing i wasn't here. Wondering what's happening in the land of grass and not suck. (24 Battles | Fight?) | | Monday, November 26th, 2007 | | 8:13 am |
Baq in the Raq
So i'm back in Iraq, and going through some pretty harsh detox/acclimation/bonage. Everything changed and my life got twisted upside-down, and i've probably already worked a 50-hour work week in the 3.5 days i've been back. I knew there was going to be a months worth of bonings i had to make up for, i just didn't realize the bonings would bone as much as they have. Anyway, i might have a new address soon. Hopefully a better change of location but not likely. Also, access to LJ is kinda spotty at best here, so try and reach me via my email or something if you really want sexiness in your life... Now that my leave is nearing an end, one thing that's becoming more and more apparent in my mind that i'm terribly ill-suited for military life. I like being a normal human. I miss hanging out with cool guys like ryosake, cirrusstrafe, and jaerik (to name a few). I miss not having to spend half my nights preparing for the next day's work. And i miss being called by my first name. So it's back to The Raq for me, But at least i know what my goal is for the next year. I'm going to keep my head down and try to do my time as quietly as possible, and then get the hell far and away from the army as possible. Get a decent job, spend a little less money on stupid stuff, and get in a position where the evil anti-monki coalition can't send me streetbound again. DaiKuso no Densetsu
So anyway, jaerik arrived and much awesomeness has been had by all so far. I broke down and bought Guitar Hero 2 and 3 for the 360, but i'm probably going to leave them here for safe keeping. Every day here has reminded me of how much i'm ill suited for military life. It's going to be a tough year when i go back. I did forget to bring my camera, but it doesn't matter much because Jae has some weird The Ring thing going on when you try and take a picture of him. We've formed a superteam to take down the ultimate evil android made by Fattie McGee. We cured world hunger. We were unable to stop a supertanker from dumping oil into the SF bay, though. >.> NOW WITH FOOTAGE! (3 Battles | Fight?) | | Friday, November 9th, 2007 | | 7:15 am |
YOU CAN ONLY WIN IF YOU TRY!!!
I like my new Digicam, but can't find too much to take pics of... Can you face the ultimate team of destructive awesomeness? GO FOR BROKE! (Fight?) | | Thursday, November 8th, 2007 | | 6:40 am |
Real Bout Fatal Monki
Dorian should be coming in a few days or so, so i've prepared some welcoming items for him. Suffice to say, it is full of AWESOME and WIN. I can't wait. I was thinking earlier about where i've been in my life, and it's been a strange and mystical journey, trying to get the poison out while getting the good things in. I'm doing a bit better at removing the harmful elements than, say, getting the good things in, but it's better than nothing. Who knows, i may end up married with children in another five, hiring Elly or Izzy to babysit the little Monklings? For now i'll settle for being the crazy uncle guy. >.> A new wrinkle in the SAN FRAN ULTIMATE BATTLE TOURNAMENT! A CHALLENGER APPEARS!!! The Cake is a Lie
Aaaanyway...spending a whole lot of money on time-wasters and interest keepers for the next year or so (or, as i like to call it, "Mental Health Moneys"). Bought like 10 XBox Games. Also bought a sweet digital camera, but to be honest most of my pics are horrendus and/or feature monkeys licking their nuts. (An aside, The Half-Life 2 package for the 360 is probably the best value you're likely to find nowadays. I've said more than my fair share about HL2 (the texture work still continues to impress. Even if between this and Halo i'm about sick of the current school of technology design), and it still ends in a cliffhanger, but still, i'd pay 20 buck for Portal alone. I miss the civilian world. I miss not being a contractually bound servant to people of dubious intelligence and even more suspect common sense. I've been incredibly happy with the real world now that i've been in military hell for such a long time, and i realize i've got to start building my life all over again when i get out. Luckily, i have two or three good resume items now. Either way, are you ready for the QUICKLY PHOTOSHOPPED BATTLE OF THE CENTURY? (18 Battles | Fight?) | | Saturday, November 3rd, 2007 | | 11:35 pm |
Monki in America
Man, what a long and crazy trip it was, but i'm back in the states! (At least, until the 19th or so) Come on with the sexiness! Ryo and Citrus have been great, and we've enjoyed much badly-pronounced fun so far. oh, and Weiners. Ryo has still not fixed his tallness problem though, and they need a cat. I miss cats. It's weird, though, being in the states after over a year and a half away. Strange little details you forget, and having actual customer service seems like a great thing. It's also good to be able to blend in with the crowd, without being a military guy or an american guy. I went and got a rental car for a few days, too, and it's the first time i've driven a non-tactical vehicle since 2004 or so. Come on! You know you want a piece of the monki! Stayin' Alive
Only 10 more days left before i hop on a plane out of here, and not much longer before i make it to the states from that. Are you ready for the MONKI INVASION!?!? Either way, it seems some people like refusing giant stuffed monkeys. Who are these people? They apparently smell and like ugly bug-eyed dogs. Yeah, i went there. The Monkey is being sent to a safe location. Sooo, what's up with everyone? (13 Battles | Fight?) | | Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 | | 4:34 pm |
Calender Watcher
2 months down, 13 months to go. >.> Ability to check LJ is spotty at best, since i can't check it at work (and the personal provider goes down all the time). Can check my Yahoo mail, though. (Fight?) | | Wednesday, October 10th, 2007 | | 8:50 am |
I hate communication blackouts. I understand why they have them, but it's still a pain in the ass. Just letting you know i'm okay, despite the news painting a grim picture. Also: Pictures needed, Stat. Even online is fine. ( boring creative ramblings ) (5 Battles | Fight?) | | Thursday, October 4th, 2007 | | 8:03 pm |
Quotable Quotes
It seems that despite some Sour Grapes' attempts to block it, I'm getting my promotion to Specialist after all. I've been getting paid as such for a while, but to actually get the recognition is nice. Iraq is also a good place to get one's stuff together. It's not much of a secret that after injuring my back, i ended up gaining about 20-plus extra pounds. It was not pretty, i was almost back to my pre-basic weight. So far i've lost 15 of that, and that's counting muscle mass i've gained too. In only a month, and without any unhealthy measures. As part of a tension reliever, i decided to take a page from some civilian jobs and take an unused portion of a whiteboard, making it the "Quote of the Day" board. So far i've been the leader for wacky quotes. Some excerpts so far: "Don't get any Whoop-Whoop in your Shoop-a-doop!" -Pickering. "There's a cat in my head, and i can't seem to catch it." -Someone pulling a Klinger. "You can only kill so much time before it comes back to eat your brains." -Pickering. Robbin' the Hood
After the suckfest before the last entry, life in the cradle of civilization has calmed down a little (or at least, as much as it can be in a warzone, but i can't really talk much about that), and Monki has had a little time to relax and unwind. Leave has been bumped up to the last gasps of October (meaning i'll be in the states in the first few days of November). Monki has determined this will be the time for REAL ULTIMATE MONKICON! A thousand poems will be composed. Benihana's will be consumed more than likely. You know, the usual stuff. I need to get back to drawing more. So far i've got the entire image for Round 1: Wake up Little Star in my head (except for those damnable first few pages), and am working around some of the other chapters. I need to get this stuff all out! I'm a bit mad that my XBox 360 and games haven't arrived yet. The address and everything is okay, so i'm not sure what the holdup is. I'm going to go bring this up with the proper parties tommorrow. (4 Battles | Fight?) | | Sunday, September 30th, 2007 | | 2:57 pm |
No good in weinerville
While on the blackout, there has been much suck. GOOD NEWS, STAT! Also, what's going on in the states? (16 Battles | Fight?) | | Wednesday, September 26th, 2007 | | 10:22 pm |
Famous Last Turds
It took almost a month and a half, but i'm finally getting the day off every once in a while that was promised us by command. Let's see how long it lasts, though. Finally got some of the programs back on my computer. I'm wondering if demand for Monki on Trillian is high enough to install it? I also realized that i failed to post the second half of the Monki Preservation Project, and lost the entire file with everything else on my comp. Oh well, i don't have much use for long long distance comic plans right now, and if anyone really wants to know the cool bits they know how to contact me. I also went a little crazy and spent a few hundred bucks on giant stuffed animals for the kiddies. I'm sure their parents are going to be mad, but hey, UNCLE MONKI IS A SPOILER. I'm running out of inked artwork to color. While DeviantArt stats show that my 3 years later Naruto and Hinata pic is far and away my most popular (including inspiring me to make this in order to thank all the people who kept coloring and favorite-ing it), I'm going to admit to the world that i'm really not too happy that this pic is ranked #1. It's with that said that i ended up, during the slow night shift, coloring it... New NaruXHina in Monkicolor by ~ randymonki on deviantARTHope that works. Lead time on these touchpad colorings is getting smaller. (7 Battles | Fight?) | | Monday, September 24th, 2007 | | 10:24 pm |
Unmountable_Boot_Drive
DISASTER! My laptop got jostled around a little bit this morning. The result? Unmountable boot drive error. Unfortunately, the laptop manufacturer doesn't provide a boot CD with purchase for some ungodly licensing reason. What is a monki to do? I'm going to try and see if i can buy a copy of Vista to boot up and install over it, but otherwise i'm going to do every shady thing in the book. I don't want 1000 bucks to go down the drain! So yeah, life conspires to prevent me from posting even colored linearts. >.> EDIT: I managed to fix my laptop so it works, but in doing so i had to reset everything to the factory default. Meaning i lost everything that wasn't on my external hard drive (including the photoshop files for that color Zelda, Jaerik and unposted Lion pic, D'oh!) As well as all my music (which, luckily, is on my iPod too). I swear by external drives nowadays. (2 Battles | Fight?) | | Sunday, September 23rd, 2007 | | 1:42 pm |
it's a psychobilly blackout!
One thing i forgot to mention about internet in Iraq is that they tend to impose communications blackouts at the drop of a hat, for whatever reason. Shutting down the internet, locking up (literally) the phone center, etc. etc. until they decide to lift it. So it's been frustrating for the last few days. Even more so that the TOS to use the internet says you don't get comped for the time the internet is down. Really frustrating because i've been holding onto these two colored arts, the first of which is Jaerik, and the second of which (Lion from FFXI) i did without color reference so i have to readjust since i got it all wrong. >.> (also, again posted to DA because i can't get FTP to work on this system...) You won't ever get bored (though beaten or gored you might)...
I was informed by one of our officers last night that i was able to tell you that i'm currently in Camp Striker, just outside Agraba-er, Baghdad. One thing i love about working graves, is that on a quiet night you can get a lot of stuff done. I decided, for prosperity, to write a little essay on the different versions of Lost Fantasy. Though i'm generally skipping some earlier versions that bear no resemblance to the earliest offical version, or any mid-versions in between... ( Read more... )I also went and, using a notebook touchpad, Colored that 'Zelda Transforming' pic from a while back. Be nice...touchpads and fingers are a pain to draw with easily. (Also linked to DeviantArt instead of from artfu because i forgot my login stuffs) (4 Battles | Fight?) | | Saturday, September 15th, 2007 | | 2:13 pm |
Come on down, stop on by, hop a carpet and fly...
Finally got settled in to my living quarters for the next 14 months. About time. Haven't had time to organize everything, though. Checked out the internet that is available, and it's more in the vein of dialup than broadband. Oh well, any way to keep in touch with the 2.4 people who read this. :p I did manage to spring for a new XBox360. Bought the Elite model, and it should arrive in two weeks. >.> Sooo, is Bioshock as good as they say? There's more going on, really, but i'm not really allowed to talk about a lot beyond the trivial things. >.> I'll tell you what, Ask me a question, and if i can answer it i'll do so.
